Volunteer, Civic Board & Poll Worker Watch

Why this is recommended

A planning commission seat that shapes a neighborhood, a poll worker job paying $250 a day with two weeks left to sign up, a $10,000 participatory budgeting window, or a CASA training that starts next month are the doors into civic life that nobody knocks on because nobody knows they are open.

What the Tab covers

Who it is for

Anyone who has said they should get more involved, the retirees with time, the students who need hours and the people who want a say in what their city does.

When it runs

Cities post board vacancies and volunteer calls during the week; people decide to show up on Sunday

Suggested task

The objective your Tab starts with. You can edit every line of it once the Tab is yours.

City and county board and commission vacancies with application deadlines, poll worker and election judge recruitment with pay and training dates by county, disaster and community volunteer calls with real needs, community grant and participatory budgeting windows, citizen academy, civic leadership and neighborhood council openings, mentoring, tutoring and court-appointed advocate program trainings, volunteer tax and stipend rule changes, background check and liability changes for volunteers and volunteer recognition and reimbursement programs, with the city, county or program first and the deadline in the title, strictly nonpartisan.

Track civic participation opportunities in the United States, strictly nonpartisan. Report only confirmed, source-backed items from the last 7 days: board, commission and advisory committee vacancies with application deadlines within 45 days in the 100 largest cities and counties; poll worker, election judge and student poll worker recruitment with pay, requirements and training dates by county; disaster and community volunteer calls with confirmed needs from the Red Cross, Team Rubicon, CERT, Medical Reserve Corps and local emergency management; community grant and participatory budgeting windows; citizen academy, civic leadership and neighborhood council openings; Big Brothers Big Sisters, CASA, reading tutor and mentoring program training dates; volunteer mileage, stipend and tax rule changes; background check and volunteer liability protection changes; and volunteer recognition and reimbursement programs. Prefer city and county clerks, election offices, emergency management agencies, program pages and established local reporting; ignore partisan recruitment, campaign activity and unverified calls, and never characterize candidates or causes. Put the city, county or program first in the title with the deadline and any pay. Use high severity for a poll worker deadline within 21 days before an election, a board vacancy closing within 10 days, or a disaster volunteer call with an active need. Return no more than 10 findings. Push each as a finding with a title, a two-sentence summary, sections for the opportunity, who qualifies, how to apply, the deadline, and the source link. If nothing qualifies, push nothing and submit the run receipt.
