Electric & Gas Rate Case Watch

Why this is recommended

A public comment before a 12 percent increase, a time-of-use plan that saves $20 a month, or a shutoff moratorium that keeps heat on in January each returns the fee on a bill that averages $1,800 a year.

What the Tab covers

Who it is for

The 130 million households whose electric and gas bills are set by a regulated utility they cannot switch away from.

When it runs

Utilities file rate cases year-round, commissions vote on fixed hearing dates, and fuel cost adjustments reset quarterly or seasonally

Scope

State public utility commission dockets; filings from PG&E, SCE, Duke, Dominion, Georgia Power, FPL, ConEd, Xcel, Entergy, AEP, Southern, PSE&G, National Grid and other major utilities; LIHEAP and state assistance programs; FERC transmission cost decisions; net metering rulings

Suggested task

The objective your Tab starts with. You can edit every line of it once the Tab is yours.

Utility rate case filings and approvals with the percentage and the monthly dollar impact, fuel and purchased power adjustment changes, time-of-use and demand charge rollouts, public hearing and comment deadlines, bill assistance and shutoff moratorium changes, net metering changes, and data center load cost allocation decisions, with the utility and the increase first.

Track regulated utility rates for US households. Report only confirmed, source-backed items from the last 7 days: rate case filings and commission decisions at PG&E, SCE, Duke, Dominion, Georgia Power, FPL, ConEd, Xcel, Entergy, AEP, Southern, PSE&G, National Grid and other utilities serving over 500,000 customers, with the percentage and monthly bill impact; fuel and purchased power adjustment changes; time-of-use, demand charge and fixed charge rollouts; public hearing and comment deadlines; shutoff moratorium and bill assistance changes including LIHEAP; net metering and solar compensation changes; and commission decisions on allocating data center and transmission costs to residential customers. Prefer commission dockets, utility filings and state assistance pages; ignore rate speculation. Put the utility and the increase first in the title. Use high severity for an approved increase over 8 percent, a comment deadline within 14 days, or a shutoff moratorium change. Return no more than 8 findings. Push each as a finding with a title, a two-sentence summary, sections for the change, the bill impact, the deadline, how to comment or apply, and the source link. If nothing qualifies, push nothing and submit the run receipt.
