Apple to tighten macOS Full Disk Access controls after Muse privacy dispute

Days after Inc. columnist Jason Aten claimed Meta's Muse Mac app read his private messages (a claim Meta disputed), Apple announced it will add new controls around macOS Full Disk Access — the permission AI agents use to read files, mail, messages, and browsing history. Apple said 'some developers are using Full Disk Access in ways that could put users at risk... without users' full knowledge,' and going forward users will grant 'this extraordinary level of access' only with 'very explicit user action.' The move also follows a Wired report on a ChatGPT Mac app flaw that could have exposed sensitive data. Meta says Muse needs Full Disk Access plus its Messages connector to read any messages. No macOS version or ship date named yet.
