Skills are rolling out into Gemini chat globally and are available in Gemini Spark.
Google Workspace business, enterprise, nonprofit and education customers will get skills in the coming weeks.
Existing Gems will be automatically migrated to Skills when Gems are removed.
Users can create reusable instructions invoked by typing '/' followed by the skill name.
Skills can be stacked and include reference files (plain text, PDFs, images) to produce more specific outputs.
Skills are accessible across Google AI subscription tiers and currently to users 18+ (U18 support coming soon).
Support for Gems will be removed starting November for personal accounts, March 2027 for Workspace business/enterprise/nonprofit, and June 2027 for Workspace education.
Opal 2 experiment will be turned down in November and Gems by Google Labs will also be retired.
