Bing adds separate AI training and grounding controls
Publishers get separate controls for model training and AI-answer grounding, with a 2027 migration deadline for legacy directives.

AI Training can be controlled in robots.txt or at page level. AI Grounding is page-level and supports Allow, DisallowExtended, or Disallow; these settings do not change traditional Bing search eligibility.
The change matters especially to sites using NoArchive or NoCache today. Grounding controls cover generated responses in Bing, Copilot and Microsoft 365, with DisallowExtended limiting third-party grounding services.
Publish the new AI Training preference and, where needed, page-level AI Grounding settings. Existing NoArchive/NoCache users that want grounding restrictions should also record the temporary preference in Bing Webmaster Tools.
Temporary grounding preferences open December 15, 2026. After March 1, 2027, NoArchive and NoCache will no longer be read as training or grounding preferences.
