Meta published six research papers Oct 2 describing mathematicians' work with Muse Spark 1.1 and 1.2 in Thinking Mode through the regular meta.ai chat interface — no custom agent harness or tool pipeline. Meta says five answer previously open questions spanning probability, differential equations, group theory, optimization, arithmetic physics, and non-associative algebra. Highlights: a finite-time wave-collapse proof settling a question open since 2015, and a 384-element counterexample disproving a group-theory conjecture. Researchers directed the work, a separate group reviewed it, and each paper marks passages drafted by humans vs AI. Meta also acknowledged independent teams solved some of the same problems via different methods.
